Strict implementation of Fisheries Code pays off — at least in Samal, Bataan where fishing industry is an important source of livelihood for a good number of residents.
In recognition of the municipality’s exemplary performance in the 2024 Fisheries Compliance Audit (FishCA), the regional office of Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG 3) awarded to Samal town a check worth P1 million. The awarding was held on April 7, 2025 during the flag raising ceremony.
The awarding ceremony was led by DILG 3 monitoring and evaluation division Chief Lerrie Hernandez who turned over the check to Mayor Alexander Acuzar.
The incentive is intended to support the town’s environmental programs and projects particularly the renovation and improvement of dilapidated fish landing structure, the DILG said in a statement.
DILG Bataan Director Belina T. Herman, CESO V, lauded the Samal government for its consistent commitment to environmental governance and adherence to Philippine Fisheries Code– key factors in earning top spot in FishCA assessment.
