Thousands of fisherfolks in Bataan and other parts of Central Luzon will soon benefit from the newly-established legislated Marine Multi-species Hatchery in Bagac which was inaugurated last March 18 led by Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia and officials of regional office of Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR-3).
Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia said he has been pushing this project when he was still a congressman to improve the lot of fishermen and the aquaculture industry not only in Bataan but also those from other parts of the region. “This will improve fishing industry in this part of Central Luzon,” the governor said.
Bagac town is not only a tourism hub but also host to thousands of fishermen who face challenges because of low catch and climate change. The LGUs has been extending technical assistance to marginal fisherfolks but was not enough to augment their income.
Also in attendance during the inauguration were Bagac officials led by Vice Mayor Ron del Rosario, barangay officials, Bataan Vice Gov. Cris Garcia and Congresswoman Gila Garcia. The governor expressed gratitude to BFAR and local officials for supporting the project.
